New Year's Painting Challenge

A guided 6-week practice of playful painting, experimentation, and creative discovery.

January 4 – February 12, 2027

Hosted by Sarah Martinez

Let this be the year you make room for painting, play, and possibility!

What to Expect

2 Painting Prompts Each Week

Every Monday and Wednesday (starting Monday, January 4), we'll go deeper into one of the prompts from our 21-day challenge.

In-Depth Video Demonstrations

Watch me work through each prompt as I share my approach, materials, tips, and insights.

Ask Questions

I will gather your questions throughout the week and answer them in a helpful video at the end of each week.

Creative Connection

Enjoy the encouragement and inspiration of knowing others are painting, experimenting, and exploring right alongside you.

Sharing Our Work

We'll continue sharing our paintings on Instagram, just as we did during the 21-day challenge, while keeping all of my in-depth demonstrations and deeper exploration exclusive to our group.

No Skills, “Talent” or Experience Required

This group is for anyone who feels inspired to play with paint and explore. You do not need to call yourself an artist or have participated in the 21-day challenge to enroll in this 6-week challenge!

This six-week guided painting group is for those who want to make more room for painting in their lives, move beyond creative ruts, perfectionism or overwhelm, and explore what might be possible when they give themselves permission to play.

I believe that experimentation and play are essential to developing an authentic artistic voice. When we give ourselves permission to explore without worrying about the outcome, we begin to discover new possibilities, develop confidence in our instincts, and find our own way of making art.

This experience is about making space for that exploration and kicking off the new year with a consistent art practice.

There are no expectations or requirements regarding skills or “talent”, no pressure to produce finished work or “good” paintings.

Release the pressure to get it right and discover the pleasure of experimenting with paint.

Reflections from Paintersof the 21-Day Painting Challenge

“What I particularly appreciate about this challenge is that, whereas many painting classes focus on teaching techniques, this one offers an opportunity to discover and explore our own personal creativity, not simply learning how to paint, but discovering one's own creative voice.”

Catherine

“Your whole challenge is my absolute favorite I have ever done… It is just enough guidance to get you started without being overwhelmed or ending up watching more instead of doing. Plus it leaves so much room for your own creativity.”

Sandra

“My inner critic has finally gone quiet!! I noticed I did not at all mind how completely imperfect these paint strokes are! … This art challenge has achieved so much.”

Joan

“I’m feeling an awakening of the artist in me. I seldom paint in recent times and this challenge has given me epiphanies and made me wanna paint more regularly and experiment more. Thank you so much, Sarah!”

Amelia
